Kindrek Mod

Welcome to the Kindrek Mod for BGII--SOA and TOB.

Thank you to my wife, Karyn, aka "Sillara," for collaboration and instant answers to modding questions. Thanks to SConrad for helping me with voicing when I had no idea where to begin. Thanks to everyone at all the forums (pocket plane, FWS, CoM, blacksheep, and gibberlings three) for all the hard work that has gone before and the models and tutorials that have been provided. Thanks Keltosh. Thanks Kai of CandleKeep for the excellent portrait and for finding all the quest-completion items!

And now on to Kindrek!

Installation:

To install the Kindrek Mod, first download the zip file (.rar). Open the zip file and extract all the files inside, which will be four (the .tp2, the .exe, the Uninstall.bat, and the folder containing everything else). Drop all these into your BGII - SoA folder. Then click the .exe and install Kindrek. That's it. Sorry, no language translations available.

General:

Kindrek does not belong to a native Faerun race. He is of a magic-hating race known as the Rahk. His Strength and Constitution scores are high because Rahk receive racial bonuses to both of these stats. Kindrek is a merciless, tireless pursuer of arcane spellcasters. He will do almost anything to destroy those who rely on magic. He will not, however, attack in-party mages. He restrains himself for the sake of the PC. He will not attack divine spellcasters, either. He has nothing against priests. Kindrek can be picked up in the City Gates area, near the main gate. He is a rejoinable NPC. When playing with this mod, make sure you save often, because Kindrek can sometimes do unpredictable things.

Some notes on playing with Kindrek (spoilers!):
1. Kindrek will not appear in the City Gates if the PC is a mage, multi-classed mage, sorcerer, or bard.
2. Kindrek is completely immune to magic. I know, it's monty. If you don't like it, don't install him. Quit bitching.
3. Because he is immune to magic (a racial characteristic), he is also unaffected by healing magic or other in-party helpful spells such as bless, protection from evil, aid, haste, etc. He cannot be restored if level-drained, and if he is killed, he cannot be resurrected. See, he's *balanced*.
4. Kindrek might suddenly attack non-party wizards, so watch out.
5. If you anger Kindrek in the initial meeting, he will attack your party.
6. Kindrek is being hunted, so watch out for ambush after returning from the Underdark.
7. Kindrek's halberd, Disruptor, is NOT a magical weapon, though many argue that it is. If a comparison must be drawn, consider it more like a relic. For more info on Disruptor, read the banter he has with Imoen.
8. Kindrek not only hates wizards but magical items--watch out!
9. Kindrek will leave your party if any SINGLE-classed wizards or sorcerers join.
10. To get Kindrek's mini-quest, you must complete the Kangaxx quest.
11. Don't let Kindrek gamble with the Cambion in the maze level of Watcher's Keep.
12. Don't let Kindrek click the Machine of Lum the Mad in Watcher's Keep.

Compatability notes:

This mod is not compatible with total or engine conversions.

Version History:

v1: The initial release of the Kindrek Mod.

v1.1: Fixed the regenerating bug. Kindrek will now regenerate no matter what the situation.

v1.2: Expanded interjections; Kindrek more intolerant; rudimentary voicing.

v1.3: Extensive voicing added (all banters and a few interjections voiced).

v1.4: New Kindrek scripts added; ChatPack voiced; fixed minor coding problems; notices wizards in party (including modded ones); notices if the PC dual-classes into wizard.

v1.5: Kindrek-PC indecent proposal (Anomen conflict); a couple re-voiced .tp2 lines.

v1.6: Fixed problem with Imoen starting banters with Kindrek; fixed interjection bugs and typos.

v1.7: Fixed audio uninstall; more typos fixed; revoiced lines in NPC banters; talk-fixer added to chatpack.

v1.8: Fixed pdialog.2da difficulties; fixed infinite looping Volo dialog if Kindrek is not in party.

v1.9: Added short quest for Kindrek to get a chance to kick some serious wizard-ass; new, better portrait added; proposition music added...

v2.0: Fixed interjection bug which kept Neb, the child killer, from appearing; fixed various interjection errors; added code to keep Kindrek from carrying magical items in his inventory; added lich interjections; got rid of the glowing effect on Disruptor.

v2.1: When you give Kindrek a magical item, he gives back a little something in return...

v2.2: Well, Kindrek would not make it past spellhold because he became unselectable after the PC-torture scene. This is due to his immunities. Being immune to spell levels also means being immune to bioware's cutscenes! So when the cutscene made all party members save <CHARNAME> unselectable, then tried to release them via a spell effect, it had no effect on Kindrek. So, in order to make Kindrek a playable mod, I had to remove his spell level immunities. Unfortunately, now he is a *huge* muchkin! I gave him huge magic resistance (trying to preserve the spirit of the mod), but now he can be affected by friendly spells. ARGH! I can see no way around this conundrum--this is the only way to make him a playable mod. I have coded in specially to make him immune to all the friendly spells that were available in NI (haste, cure disease, cure blindness, cure deafness, cure paralysis, cure confusion, invisibility, remove curse, remove fear, remove paralysis, restoration, slow poison, and flesh to stone). This may be an incompatibility between the original game and the Kindrek mod that I cannot overcome. Sorry, folks. He works now, but he is diminished as a mod...

v2.3: Interjection tweaking. A lot of it. Altered Kindrek's joining options--it is now possible not to take him initially and yet pick him up later.

v2.4: Fixed typos.
Altered Kindrek's initial reaction to Blackrazor.
Added and tweaked interjections.
Altered descriptions of Prenash's mercenaries' items.
Fixed Kindrek's slayer interjection.
Altered some of Kindrek's unremovable items.
Fixed Kindrek's initial saving throws.
Added scripting workaround to prevent Kindrek from being frozen by the cutscene move in Spellhold.
Restored Kindrek's immunities to allies' spells.
Tweaked Kindrek's joining dialogue for ToB.
Added advanced-level Kindrek for ToB summoning.
Updated ToB scripting to make him consistent with his SoA behavior.
Added reaction to Vahldiek (Tsujatha mod).

v2.5: Added Russian translation by iopden, anymale & aerie.ru
v2.6: Made compatible for BG2:EE
v2.7: Encoded translations to work with BG2:EE
